Utah: Special Session Ends

Lawmakers completed a one-day special session yesterday, after approving two bills. One measure appropriates $4.9 million for law enforcement and homelessness abatement programs through January, 2018, The other bill allows the closure of the Rio Grande Street shelter and its conversion to a state-run, multi-purpose human services center. Additional law enforcement funding is expected in the 2018 and 2019 regular sessions.

Governor Gary Herbert (R) has indicated that he plans to sign both bills into law.
