Maine: Veto Session Ends 2017 Regular Session
August 03, 2017

The Legislature ended its longer-than-usual regular session on Wednesday, with the consideration of several bills vetoed by Governor Paul LePage (R). Lawmakers sustained vetoes on a bill to combat distracted driving and an overhaul of solar regulations. Legislators did override vetoes on a measure to raise the age to buy tobacco to 21 and a requirement to hire more public health nurses.

Lawmakers may return to Augusta in the fall to consider an omnibus marijuana bill, which will likely include a tax hike on recently voter-approved recreational marijuana.
