Louisiana: 2017 Session Convenes

The legislature convenes today in Baton Rouge for the beginning of the 2017 regular session. Lawmakers are expected to consider an overhaul to the state’s finances, reforming the complex tax structure, and development for higher education and infrastructure improvements. Legislators are also expected to take up possibly extending the state sales tax hike from last year, a gas tax increase, and criminal justice reforms. The session runs through June 8.
