Alaska: Fourth Special Session Ends

Lawmakers adjourned the fourth special session of 2017 without reaching an agreement on Governor Bill Walker’s (I)  wage tax legislation to raise $300 million towards closure of a projected $2.7 billion spending gap. Certain legislative leaders believe oil revenues will be sufficient to carry the state in the meantime. Despite the inaction on the tax bill, legislators did approve a rollback of significant portions of last year’s criminal justice overhaul.
